Welcome to the homepage of the Video on Demand Laboratory. Despite the name of the laboratory, our research is not limited to video on demand. In fact, nowadays our focus is more on new research fields which have attracted attention from the Computer Science community such as Web 2.0 applications (blogs, social networks, video sharing networks etc.) and Peer-to-Peer computing (specially P2P VoD, live streaming and information retrieval).
The laboratory is a part of the Computer Science Department of the Federal University of Minas Gerais. Our research on social media applications is a part of the Brazilian Institute for Web Research. Also, we conduct research with the help of the Luar Laboratory, Speed Laboratory and Databases Laboratory.
Currently the Laboratory is supervised by Professors Jussara Almeida and Sergio Campos with collaborations from Marcos Gonçalves and VĂrgilio Almeida.

The goal of this project is to create a Green portal of popular Web 2.0 applications. By Green, we mean that videos which are of low quality (i.e. low bit-rate, meta-data with swear words, pornography, violence, spam etc) will be filtered by the portal.
